HISTORIC ARCADE RESTORATION PROJECT

Project Awarded:

   * Florida Trust Award for Historic Restoration

   * Mayor's Gold Hammer Award

Includes faux restoration work and the following murals:

Arcade West Wall After

Titled;  Norman Rockwell Era, Arcade Bldg. west wall, Orange Avenue, Ft. Pierce FL

Function;  Recall historic shops & tenants, resolve odd-shaped wall

Inspired by the art of Norman Rockwell, the mural recalls the old days of this well-remembered 1920’s mall before it was partially burned down - appreciative locals claim it’s given their city a positive identity.  The mural composition makes playful (and brilliant) sense of the odd-shaped wall.

Arcade Interior After

Titled;  History of Ft. Pierce, Arcade Bldg. Ft. Pierce FL

Function;  Entertain, educate and attract people into the complex

Forty-three historical facts and events accurately portrayed - locals contributed their old photos and many memories.  Commission included the design for an historically informative leaflet that doubles as a quiz for local school children, describing the relevance of each hand-painted image.

Arcade North Wall After

Titled; Fun with Trompe Arcade Bldg. north wall, US Hwy 1, Ft. Pierce FL

Function;  Incorporate signage, resolve odd-shaped wall, hide

    ventilator screen

Spectacular use of ‘trompe l’oeil’ makes this illusion particularly convincing – the banner actually bobs up and down as viewers drive by.  Clever integration of the buildings signage completes this humorous, award-winning restoration project.

SCHOOL PROJECTS

Sebastian Middle After

Titled;  Classic American Art, Sebastian Middle School FL

Function;  Promote cultural awareness with a welcoming atmosphere

St. Ed's After

Titled; Pirates, St. Edwards School Gymnasium, Vero Beach FL

Function;  Represent school mascot tastefully

Challenged to represent the rather blood-thirsty mascot of this prestigious private school, the artist decided to portray the romance and beauty of the old pirate ship.  The school slogan looks like it was painted with hot dripping tar. Graduating seniors donated the mural to the school.

SEMINOLE BUILDING

Seminole Bldg After

Titled; Pretty Ladies Downtown, 14th Avenue, Vero Beach FL

Function;  Achieve architectural continuity

City code restrictions necessitated the painting of faux windows on this side wall.  The artist took the opportunity to introduce classic Impressionist elements combined with the convincing windows, faux railing and roof.  Viewers marvel at the seamless illusion.
